Spanish ATC equipment supplier Indra has appointed Ángel Escribano executive chairman after Marc Murtra was appointed head of Spanish telecoms company Telefonica.

Angel Escribano is the CEO and owner of Escribano Mechanical & Engineering, a Spanish defence company that makes electro-optical systems and remote weapons. He has been a shareholder of Indra since May 2023 and according to reports owns around 14% of the company. The Spanish Government owns around 28%.

Murta leaves to head up Telefonica as part of Spanish Government intervention in the running of the domestically important telecoms group. He had been executive chairman of Indra for four years, after being appointed in a similar way.

A statement from Indra's board of directors thanked Marc Murtra for his dedication and work, while "valuing very positively his contribution as chairman to the transformation of the Indra Group".
