Azerbaijan Airlines has signed an agreement with Indra to implement modern air navigation technologies at the new ALAT Cargo Airport.
The partnership was formalized during the Passenger Terminal Expo 2025 in Madrid last week. The deal represents a significant step in Azerbaijan's strategy to establish the Alat Free Economic Zone as a key multimodal logistics center connecting Europe and Asia.
Indra will provide navigation systems designed to enhance operational efficiency and ensure flight safety for round-the-clock cargo operations. The company delivers air traffic management solutions to over 90% of countries worldwide.
The cargo facility occupies a strategic location adjacent to the ALAT Sea Port of Baku with direct connections to Azerbaijan's railway and highway networks. This arrangement enables efficient cargo movement across multiple transportation modes.
The development incorporates sustainability features including eco-friendly construction methods and renewable energy integration.
Azeraeronavigation Air Traffic Department of AZAL CJSC will provide air traffic services customized for the cargo airport's operational requirements. The newly established ALAT Aeronavigation Service will focus on airspace integration and capacity optimization.
"The implementation of intelligent, automated air navigation systems is one of the key conditions for the successful operation of modern cargo airports," said Farhan Guliyev, adviser to the president of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC. "Cooperation with a world leader such as Indra opens a new chapter in the development of a high-tech, efficient, and safe infrastructure."
Ángel Escribano, executive chairman at Indra Group, said: "We are delighted to partner with AZAL on this strategic project, bringing our experience and cutting-edge air navigation technology. Indra is committed to contributing to increased operational efficiency, safety and sustainability of one of the most ambitious logistics hubs in the region."
The parties also discussed potential expansion of cooperation in airspace digitalization and implementation of intelligent solutions throughout Azerbaijan's aviation sector.
