Nav Canada wins award for staff fatigue monitoring app

CANSO has announced Nav Canada as the recipient of its Global Safety Achievement Award 2023.

The award form CANSO, which is industry association for air navigation service providers (ANSPs) around the world, recognises the individuals, teams, or companies that have made a significant contribution to aviation safety in the past 12 months.

The award went to the Fatigue Risk Management Application Development Team at Nav Canada.

The Nav Canada Fatigue Risk Management PowerBi App integrates three reports – Fatigue Risk, Fatigue Limit Exceedance, and Fatigue Review – to support the organisation’s Fatigue Risk Management System (FRMS).

The app allows Nav Canada to proactively manage fatigue and monitor fatigue limit exceedance for over 2,000 operational employees over five time zones located at more than a hundred units. It also supports investigations into safety events where fatigue may be a contributing factor. This data-driven approach provides better information to internal stakeholders, including unions, to collaboratively identify mitigations.

“We are proud of the hard work and dedication of our team in developing our Fatigue Risk Management PowerBi App, and are honoured that their efforts were recognised by receiving the CANSO Global Safety Achievement Award,” said Ray Bohn, president and CEO of Nav Canada.

The winner was announced during the GANSO Global Safety Achievement Conference 2023 Gala Dinner on November 28, hosted by AirNav Ireland in Dublin, Ireland.

Meanwhile, Belgian air navigation service provider skeyes has achieved CANSO’s GreenATM Level 3 accreditation.

The achievement is awarded to ANSPs that strive to reduce both their direct impact on the environment and the emissions of the airspace users under their control. Skeyes is one of the first air navigation service providers to obtain this label.

Simon Hocquard, CANSO Director General said, “Their advanced management of environmental footprint, from renewable energy use to monitoring resource usage and promoting sustainable travel, sets a commendable example for the industry. We applaud skeyes for their dedication to shaping a greener future for air traffic management", he added.

Johan Decuyper, CEO of Skeyes said, “Being awarded the GreenATM label is a wonderful recognition of our efforts to effectively reduce the environmental impact of both our own operations and those of our customers, the airlines. The GreenATM programme highlighted the areas our ANSP could improve to optimise its performance.”
