The UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority has awarded a radio replacement project to Rohde & Schwarz.
This project aims to modernize the radio communications system at the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre in Abu Dhabi.
The radio replacement project involves the installation of over 200 new radios, including providing a significant enhancement to the already installed voice communication system (VCS).
Rohde & Schwarz has worked in the UAE for 30 years. The company's market-leading R&S Series 5200, a next-generation air traffic control (ATC) radio, played a pivotal role in securing this contract as its multiple network interfaces enable a seamless integration into the existing infrastructure.
The signing ceremony was held at the Dubai Airshow 2023.
"Modernizing the radio communication infrastructure at the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre in Abu Dhabi represents one of GCAA's groundbreaking projects," said H.E. Saif Mohamed Al Suwaidi, the director general of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). “Partnering with Rohde & Schwarz will elevate this project, leveraging their extensive experience, local presence, and cutting-edge technologies. This collaboration will significantly contribute to the development process of the project."
"We are honored to be entrusted with the “Radio Replacement” project by the UAE GCAA," said Patrick Brodda, managing director of Rohde & Schwarz Emirates, expressing his gratitude. "This partnership reflects our commitment to delivering state-of-the-art communication solutions and our dedication to the UAE aviation sector."
Rohde & Schwarz looks forward to collaborating closely with the GCAA to ensure the successful implementation of this project. The “Radio Replacement” initiative is a significant step in the digital transformation towards enhancing the efficiency and reliability of the air navigation system in Abu Dhabi, ultimately contributing to the safety and seamless operation of air traffic.
