Oro Navigacija, Lithuania’s air navigation service provider, has selected Saab to implement its digital tower solution at Vilnius Airport, marking it as the first capital airport to fully adopt the technology.

The system is designed to enhance operational efficiency, centralise air traffic control, and support the long-term development of Lithuania’s aviation sector.

The technology, built on Saab's Integrated Digital Tower Suite (I-DTS) architecture, equips Vilnius Airport with 4K cameras and advanced tools for air traffic controllers. It also provides a foundation for integrating future technologies, such as artificial intelligence-based features and unmanned traffic management (UTM) services.

The digital tower aims to improve the efficiency and availability of air traffic services while enabling centralised control across multiple airports in the country.

By adopting Saab's digital tower technology, Oro Navigacija (ON) is modernising its air traffic management capabilities and preparing for potential future integrations of Kaunas and Palanga airports into the system. This initiative is expected to increase resource sharing, streamline operations, and improve reliability.

“Air traffic management is undergoing significant changes. New technologies provide opportunities to tackle emerging challenges, enhance efficiency, and maintain the highest safety standards. The remote tower solution will position the company as a regional leader in innovation,” said Saulius Batavičius, CEO of Oro Navigacija.

Per Ahl, CEO of Saab Digital Air Traffic Solutions said, “We are proud that Oro Navigacija has entrusted us with this project. This partnership marks a significant step in transforming air traffic services in Lithuania.”
